Burr Grinder

Among the devices that make kitchen work easy is a burr grinder. So many foods that would otherwise be impossible to make or otherwise unpalatable can now be made into delicacies, thanks to the burr grinder. So what is this burr grinder? A burr grinder is a device that is made by two revolving abrasive surfaces with adjustable distance in between them. The device grinds hard foods that are pushed in between the abrasive surfaces by a revolving screw. The user can achieve different sizes of the foods by using different speeds. The traditional manual burr grinder has been in use for a very long term and with advances in technology, the electric burr grinder is readily available in the market.

With many grinders on the market, what could be the special feature with the burr grinder? Those who have used grinders with blades stand to benefit from burr grinders. The latter have blades that rotate rapidly chopping the hard food into un-uniformed particles. The friction generated in the process leads to a loss in the natural flavor and aroma of the foods.

Burr grinders are known to retain the natural flavor and aroma as they do not generate heat while grinding.  Those who love coffee will surely love to use the burr grinder. The other added advantage is that the burr grinder produces particles of the same size large, small or medium.

There are two major types of burr grinders.  Burr grinders are made for grinding specific foods so that a burr grinder made for one cannot be used for another.  The first type is the one made for grinding coffee.  This type of burr grinder has a cup for collecting the ground powder and a handle which is turned by the user’s hand. With every turn, the grinding surfaces rub against each other hence the grinding effect on the food. Every turn provides leverage so that there are many rotations and quicker grinding is achieved. The other type of burr grinder is used to ground spices such as pepper, salt and spice mills among others. Unlike the one for coffee, this type has the whole top part rotating instead of a handle. It is more convenient in that few turns are required to generate enough ground foods. The ground spice falls directly to the food that is to be used with the spice.

There are a few factors among many others that one would consider before acquiring one. The first is the foods you intend to grind. It is prudent for the user to buy a burr grinder that is specific to the type of food to be ground. Secondly, one needs to consider how they intend to power on the grinder.  Areas where there is no electricity, the manual burr grinder would be the best option for such areas. Thirdly, the price of the burr grinder should be researched so as to get the best offer possible on the market. Lastly, one needs to consider the type of material used to make up the burr grinder.  The best materials are the ones the last long, are easy to maintain and are quality.

Capresso Burr Grinder Reviews

Okay so you are here reading this means that you definitely like coffee and are definitely wanting to start the day drinking the best coffee you can! Well this article will help you to make up your mind and will show you the best coffee grinders available from Capresso.

Burr Grinder, Blade Grinder, Or Conical Grinders?

There are 3 options and all will depend on how you like your coffee and how much your budget is. So let’s start with;

Blade Grinders – these are the cheapest coffee makers but also come with a few problems. The blades will grind the coffee beans depending on how long you keep the blade running but because the blades tend to get hot this sometimes will burn the coffee beans and therefore leave you with a nasty taste. If all you want is too grind your own beans and just want a basic coffee drink then the blade grinders will be perfect for you.

Burr Grinders – these will produce much finer beans but you will pay more for the burr grinder than a standard blade, however you won’t have to worry about your coffee beans being burnt or leaving a bad taste as the burr grinder doesn’t lose the flavour and keeps the aroma so although you pay more, each coffee drink will be worth the extra quality.

Conical Grinders –now these are the real high tech gadgets that also are top dollar. But every home should definitely have one of these or strive to have one as they produce the finest coffee beans and makes drinking coffee a wonderful experience.

Quite Noisy but only lasts for around 30-40 seconds but a grinder is usually noisy so what do you expect to get, just don’t have it next to your bed. Ha Ha!

Conical Burr Coffee Grinder Secrets Revealed

What’s the best way to get the best shot from your espresso machine? Get yourself a conical burr coffee grinder. Well, you may be thinking “what’s the difference between a conical burr grinder and a regular coffee grinder?”. Plenty. It could mean the difference between a disgusting, bitter cup of espresso and a sip of heavenly nectar.

A regular coffee grinder is fine if you are using it to grind coffee for your regular drip style coffee maker, but that’s about as far as it goes. If you want espresso or Turkish coffee, a regular grinder can’t grind finely or evenly enough to get the results you need.

A regular grinder uses steel blades, which produce heat and inconsistent grounds. The burr coffee grinder uses two circular shaped steel wheels, in the shape of the letter “O” to grind the coffee beans. It grinds much slower, thus eliminating the heat and inconsistent grind of the blade style grinders. Also, it’s much quieter, which is a big plus.

Yield of ground coffee can be from 4 ounces to 15 to 30 and so on. Some use timers only and some have on and off switches.

The higher end units, like Gaggia and Pasquini, have a “doser” built in that lets you consistently measure the correct amount for just the right shot of espresso coffee.
